The impact that he's had on the game of football thus far was too significant to go unnoticed. That’s why I chose to create a piece of Mahomes that would represent his legacy in a unique and powerful way. The inspiration behind this painting comes from Mahomes unwavering commitment to the game. Despite facing numerous obstacles and challenges throughout his career, he's never lost his love for football. This passion is reflected in every game he plays, and it’s what sets him apart from other players. My goal was to capture his passion in one piece, which is why I chose to depict Mahomes fierce scream as he runs out of the tunnel before each game.
Look closely and you’ll discover references to his nickname “Showtime”, the words "chiefs kingdom," markings on player entrance structures representing his wins and a clock counting down to showtime. His wristband showcases his two Super Bowl victories and a famous quote inspiring youth of all races and backgrounds to pursue their dreams. Patrick Mahomes and His Legacy
With his incredible talent, work ethic, and leadership skills, Mahomes has become a beloved figure not only in Kansas City but in the entire NFL. He has been praised for his ability to make seemingly impossible throws, his poise under pressure, and his ability to read defenses. Mahomes has also become an inspiration for young athletes all around the world.
Mahomes' Rise to Stardom
Mahomes was selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, and from there, his stardom has continued to rise. He began his rookie season as a backup to veteran quarterback Alex Smith, but he quickly showed his potential in a Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos, where he completed 22 of 35 passes for 284 yards, with one touchdown. The Chiefs decided to trade Smith to the Washington Football Team in the offseason, allowing Mahomes to take over the starting quarterback role in 2018.
Mahomes' Incredible 2018 Season
In his first season as a starter, Mahomes put up incredible numbers, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, with only 12 interceptions. He led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and an AFC Championship appearance, where they lost to the New England Patriots in overtime. Mahomes was named the NFL MVP for his incredible performance, becoming the second-youngest player ever to win the award.
Super Bowl Victory and Contract Extension
In 2019, Mahomes continued to dominate, leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years. In the Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes rallied his team with an incredible fourth-quarter performance, throwing for two touchdowns and leading the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory. He was named the Super Bowl MVP for his performance.
In July 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year contract extension with the Chiefs worth $450 million, the largest contract in NFL history at the time. The deal solidified Mahomes' status as the face of the franchise and one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
The Legacy Continues
Patrick Mahomes has maintained his position as a top quarterback in the NFL since winning the Super Bowl in 2020. He led the Chiefs to another Super Bowl in the 20-21 season, throwing over 4,700 yards and 38 touchdowns. Although the team fell short of a Super Bowl win in both the 20-21 season and 21-22 season, Mahomes remained one of the league's most dominant quarterbacks.
As the 22-23 season began, the Chiefs were not perceived as a top contender in the NFL, which was a shift from previous years. Despite the skeptics and critics, Mahomes and his team rose to the challenge and disproved their doubters. In Super Bowl 57, as underdogs against the dominant Eagles team led by Jalen Hurts, the Chiefs emerged victorious despite their backs being against the wall. Despite suffering from a visibly injured ankle and mid-game discomfort, Mahomes demonstrated his signature winning form. As a six-year quarterback, he is now a two-time NFL MVP and a two-time Super Bowl MVP.
